The Burlington Recreation and Parks Department offers a variety of activities for adults ages 55 and over under the direction of Jane Smith. From dinner and lunch socials to athletic events and trips, one is sure to find something of interest. A new beginning of an old tradition in Burlington has taken place with the opening of the John Robert Kernodle Senior Activities Facility. This unique facility offers an array of activity for all senior adults. From an extensive exercise facility to first class meeting rooms, everyone will have the opportunity take part in Burlington's newest state of the art senior facility. The building entrance is located off of Mebane Street directly adjacent to Willow Creek Apartments. It is within walking distance to the Burlington Aquatics and Tennis Centers.

The Kernodle Senior Activities Center offers several volunteer opportunities, such as: Receptionists- Answer phone, give information, refer calls, help with light paper work. Assist with Mailings- Assemble mail accordingly, and put on labels. SHIIP Volunteers- Assist people with Medicare plan supplements and other insurance needs. A volunteer Will be trained by the NC Department of Insurance. Senior Center Representative- Attends fairs to promote the senior center and give out information. Volunteer Instructors- Able to instruct specific subject or activity.
